At-Home Pet Euthanasia Cost in Atlanta (2026): Real Published Prices
What Atlanta-area at-home vets charge for a gentle goodbye at home, from the prices they publish: the visit, cremation add-ons, hospice consults, extra fees, and what to ask when you call.
Saying goodbye at home, on their favorite blanket with the people they love close by, is a gift many families want to give. It’s also a decision that often has to be made quickly, so we gathered the prices that Atlanta-area at-home vets actually publish. That way you can focus on your pet, not on making phone calls.
We took these prices from each provider’s own website on October 26, 2026. Fees change and can depend on your pet’s size, how far the vet travels and the time of day, so please call to confirm your total.
What At-Home Euthanasia Costs in Metro Atlanta
For the visit, sedation and euthanasia alone, the published fees we found ranged from about $375 to $500 for most pets. Larger dogs cost more, and some providers list a starting price of “$300+”.
| Provider | Euthanasia visit | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| Peaceful Passings (West Buckhead) | $450 | Includes up to 20 miles of travel |
| Pet Loss At Home (metro Atlanta) | $450 to $500 | Includes travel and sedation |

| Heartstrings Pet Hospice (metro Atlanta) | $399 | Extra fees outside the Perimeter, after 5 pm and for large pets (amounts not listed) |
| Gifted Hands Veterinary Hospice (Gwinnett and south metro) | From $300 | Says its in-home euthanasia costs average $300 to $800 |
Some well-known providers, such as Lap of Love and Sweet Dreams, share their prices by phone. A quick call is always worth it, and they’re happy to talk you through it.
Adding Cremation
Most at-home vets can take your pet with them afterward and arrange cremation, so you don’t have to do anything else that day. That adds to the total:
- Communal cremation (ashes not returned): about $190 to $270 for most pets at the providers who list it, by weight.
- Private cremation (ashes returned to you): about $360 to $480 for most pets, by weight.
Two providers publish all-in packages:
| Provider | Euthanasia + communal cremation | Euthanasia + private cremation |
|---|---|---|
| Pet Loss At Home | $650 to $750 | $800 to $950 |
| Gentle Sleep | $525 to $745 | $675 to $945 |
So for a typical family dog with private cremation and the ashes returned, plan for roughly $700 to $950 in total.

Other Fees to Ask About
- Travel: many vets include a set distance, then add a fee beyond it. Peaceful Passings includes 20 miles. Gentle Sleep adds a fuel surcharge outside its usual area.
- Evenings, weekends and holidays: several providers charge more for these times. Most don’t list the amount, so it’s worth asking.
- Larger pets: some vets add a fee for very big dogs, since an extra pair of hands may be needed.
- Card fees and cancellations: Peaceful Passings lists a 3% card fee, and Gifted Hands lists $65 for cancelling within 24 hours.
Hospice Care at Home
If your pet still has some good days ahead, in-home hospice helps keep them comfortable. That can mean pain relief, help with eating and moving, and an honest look at their quality of life. The American Veterinary Medical Association describes end-of-life care as letting a pet “live comfortably at home,” with euthanasia as one option along the way.
- Gifted Hands lists in-home hospice consultations starting at $150, plus any medicine.
- Gentle Sleep lists a quality-of-life consultation at $300.
A consult can also help with the hardest question, “Is it time?” Many vets use a quality-of-life scale to look at pain, appetite, mobility and joy together with you.
What Happens During an At-Home Visit
Every family’s goodbye is a little different, but most visits follow the same gentle pattern:
- Time to settle in. The vet explains each step and answers any questions you have. There’s no rush at all.
- Sedation first. Your pet gets a sedative so they drift into a deep, peaceful sleep. Veterinary guidelines support sedation before euthanasia, and every provider above includes it.
- The final injection. Once your pet is fully asleep, the vet gives the euthanasia medicine. It works quickly.
- Afterward. The vet gently checks that your pet has passed. Small reflex movements, a deep breath or their bladder letting go can happen afterward. The AVMA guidelines note these are normal reflexes, not signs that your pet is aware. Take all the time you need to say goodbye.
You’re always welcome to stay with your pet the whole time, and the AVMA guidelines encourage giving families that choice. If you’d like children or your other pets there too, just let your vet know.
If You’d Like to Lay Them to Rest at Home
The medicine used for euthanasia stays in your pet’s body and can be harmful to wildlife or other animals. The AVMA guidelines note this risk, so if you bury your pet at home, choose a deep spot away from water and check your city or county rules first. Your vet can help you think it through.

- Can you take my pet afterward, and which crematory do you use?

Questions People Ask
How Much Does At-Home Pet Euthanasia Cost in Atlanta?
Based on the prices Atlanta-area at-home vets publish, the visit, sedation and euthanasia usually cost about $375 to $500 in October 2026. Some providers start from $300, and very large dogs can cost $600 or more.
How Much Does It Cost With Cremation?
The published packages that include private cremation, with the ashes returned to you, ranged from about $675 to $950. With communal cremation, where the ashes aren’t returned, they ranged from about $525 to $750.
Is At-Home Euthanasia More Expensive Than Going to the Vet Clinic?
It usually costs more, because the vet travels to you and spends unhurried time with your family. Many people feel it’s worth it for a calm, familiar goodbye, especially for pets who get anxious in the car or at the clinic.
Will My Pet Feel Any Pain?
Your pet is given a sedative first, so they’re deeply asleep before the final injection. Veterinary guidelines describe this as a peaceful way to help a pet pass without distress.
How Do I Know When It’s Time?
There’s rarely one perfect moment. A quality-of-life consult or scale can help you look at pain, appetite, mobility and the things that still bring them joy.
What Can I Do to Remember Them?
Many families keep a paw print, a lock of fur, or their ashes in a special place. You can also create a free tribute on Furbituary with their story and favorite photos, and share it with everyone who loved them. If the grief feels heavy, the Cornell Pet Loss Support Hotline is there for you.
